Is it time for you to take me out of here YET??
We had our last "visit" with Joshua today. We have got to go running with our facilitator/translator starting at quarter to 10 tomorrow morning. First stop is the courthouse to get our court decree!! We are still working on the ambitious plan of completing our paperwork here by Wednesday afternoon so we can catch the train that night. So we are figuring our last visit today means that the last time we enter the orphanage it will be to say goodbye to the caretakers and to bust Joshua out of here.
Sarah, if you are reading this- We have not seen Caroline yet. The problem is that the only chance we actually have seen most of the kids is when they come outside and the littler ones that are not walking yet are always in the outside cribs or strollers with hats on. We even have attempted to find Maeve and still have not. The only children we have seen from RR are the two in Joshua's groupa and one little boy who is very mobile who unfortunately is not listed as of yet because his need is no longer on the short list. I am going to attempt to see if I can transfer the picture you have to my camera sd card and see if I can ask on the last day. It is so hard with the language barrier to ask questions and to even understand if they try to answer them.
One note for the 3 families that I know of that have children waiting here... please know that although this is an orphanage that the children really seem to be well cared for. The doctor is very nice and spends his days at the orphanage.. he does not come and go.
One little boy I would love to advocate for is a little boy that was on Reece's Rainbow but is now not listed because of the new law. For those unaware.. this country put in place a new law restricting adoption- this new law states that children under the age of 5 can't be adopted unless they have a specific need that is listed. The list is very very short and does not include what was once included as special needs. CP, FAS, Cleft palate, or HIV+ unless cancer is involved are now not on the special needs list. We are praying the list gets expanded to include so many more conditions.
Anyway the little boy once known as Doyle on RR has really grabbed our attention and a piece of our hearts. To be honest I am not sure even what exactly his syndrome is.. maybe arthrogryposis. I would refer to RR but again he is not listed at this time. To be blunt one of his hands appears to consist of what looks like a claw. He has a distinct facial appearance as well. Anyway that really is neither here nor there because he is a SWEETIE! I am going to be honest Doyle does not have that look that screams adorable little boy with an affectionate personality. I fear that people will pass him over. He is this sweet little boy that loves affection. I would open a door for his groupa to walk in and he would reach up just to touch my hand. He plays well with all the children and listens to the caregivers. The boy is a fish and loves pool time. And there is NOTHING he can't do with his hands. He has adapted so well and uses his hands to carry and throw everything. You are probably wondering why advocate for him when right now his need is not listed? Well because I ask you to pray.. pray his special need becomes listed so that he can be adopted before he turns 5. Pray that someone will see his beauty and want to call him their son. Pictures are just pictures but maybe someone will get an idea about his personality through my words and experiences with him and when he does become available will commit to him. So anyway here is that special little boy.
Hey I know that place! :) I love love love Doyle I wish he would find a family soon! Still thinking about and praying for you all!

ReplyDeleteGood luck getting out of there quickly! I have so many memories of that orphanage. Everytime I see a family there it is so bittersweet. Happy for those finding homes, but missing all those we left behind! I love that you are advocating for those left behind. Doyle is a sweetie!

From one of our adoptive families who visited with him in February 2011: " Doyle is precious, loves attention, very smart, loves piano and type of music. He has a smile that will melt your heart. Even though he only has a few fingers on his right hand he still grabs and holds things. He walks. Lovely Lovely child! "
$288.00 is available towards the cost of my adoption!
